Join us at the Crafers Hotel for a journey through the classic wine regions of France. Hosted by importer Jono Hersey, he will take you through the French country side as if you were there.
On arrival you will be greeted with a glass of Claude Cazal Champagne and Oysters. Here we will take the edge of off the day and begin to relax.
Once seated we will look at two brackets of fresh mineral wines from the most famous white wine regions of France. We will compare Merlin-Cherrier's Sancerre to Jean Pabiot's Pouilly-Fume and taste the difference between Village and Premier Cru Chablis with Agnes et Didier Dauvissat's wonderful 2017 wines. The above paired with a charcuterie board of Jamon, rillettes, pickled vegetables and croutes will get the driest of mouths salivating for the remainder of the evening.
A snapshot of fresh French wines wouldn't be complete without a Provincial Rose. We will look at the classic Chateau des Bormettes next to a very unique and very light fresh red wine from the almost extinct region of Champlitte. Well done to the Santini Collective for wanting to keep this region alive, a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that smells of Lavender certainly is unique! The wines start to gain a little more weight now as we head to the Southern Rhone Valley. A sulfur free Cotes du Rhone and an Organic Cairanne from Cooperative Cave de Cairanne will go beautifully with Saucisse de Canard!
With no English translation for Terroir it can often be hard to explain. That is why we are going to look at two Beaujolais from the same village, one is grown on Blue Granit soil and the other Pink Granit. One example at a time this mysterious theory that is the fundamental basis for all fine wines of France will become clearer. Thank you Frederic Berne! Last but absolutely not least we look at two serious Red Burgundys from Domaine Charlopin Tissier. These wines will speak for themselves on the night....! The above paired with a family share style serving of Selle d'Ageneau et Poulet Rotie. Also known as platters of roast lamb and chicken, gremolata, sides of tartiflette and broccolini!
